Adan is ONE month old!!!

Here are some pictures of Adan at one month old. I can't believe how fast he's growing!!!

Our first visit to the New Orleans Zoo

On April 22, Miguel and I took Adan to the zoo. We met Terri, Mike and Kaya there and had a great time! We got halfway through, though and it got a bit too hot for Adan, so we left early. While we were there, though, we were sitting on a bench and people started screaming. We looked down and a very large water moccasin was heading our way. We quickly got out of his way. Afterwards, Miguel, Adan and I went to dinner then headed home. It was a wonderful day!

Grandma Betancourt Comes to visit

Miguel's mom came to visit for a few weeks. It was nice to have her here to help with Adan and stuff around the house while Miguel is at work. She really enjoyed her visit, I think. Adan really benefited from her visit as well.

Adan comes home

Adan came home on March 31st 2007. He had to stay an extra night in the hospital, due to some jaundice. My mom and Roland were at our house to help us out and we really appreciated it! On April 1st we had to go back to the hospital because Adan was getting more yellow. He was sent home with a good report. After the hospital we all went to dinner since Terri and Kaya had made it to the house. It was really good to have something other than hospital food.

Everyone in the neighborhood came over to see Adan. Everyone commented on how adorable he was and how much he looks just like his daddy! I have to agree. So far, he doesn't look like me at all!

Miguel has been the best dad in the world. He loves Adan so much and is so helpful around the house. Adan is a very lucky little boy to have such a wonderful daddy. Miguel dotes on Adan every chance he gets. I have a feeling he's going to be a very spoiled little boy. That's ok though!!

Adan is born!

I started having some contractions in the afternoon of the 27th of March. We arrived at the hospital at 5am on the 28th of March. Here I am that morning ready to meet Adan!

At the hospital, they realized that I was only dialated 2cm but was having contractions. They allowed me to labor a few more hours, then came in and broke my water. That's when the real fun began! I started having really strong contractions. Miguel was WONDERFUL throughout the entire time. He helped me with my breathing and helped me keep my mind on anything but the pain. After about 6 hours, my doctor checked me again and I only progressed to 4 cm. I was so tired and in so much pain. I finally broke down and asked for the epidural. After 3 more hours (and three refills of epidural!) I was finally at 10 cm and ready for Adan's arrival. 3 hours after that, Adan's heartbeat dropped considerably and the doctors and nurses were quite worried. He rebounded just fine, though. Adan came into the world at 6:13pm on March 28th 2007. He weighed 8 pounds, 11 oz and was 19.25 inches long. He had a slight heart murmur, but after a day or so, he was just fine.
I can not put into words how I felt that day. To see my precious little man for the first time was the most amazing moment of my life. He was absolutely perfect in every way. Everything in my life totally faded away when I looked at his precious little face. At that moment, and since that moment, nothing is as important as it once was. The only priority in my life is my family. My family is now complete with the addition of Adan James.

About our first pregnancy

After ten years of being happily married, we found out in July 2007 that we were expecting our first little miracle. It took us several months of searching for the perfect name for our new bundle of joy, but we finally settled on Adan James for a boy and Kaitlynn Marie for a girl. It was an anxious and happy time for me and Miguel.

At our 19 week doctor's visit we found out that we were expecting a precious little boy. We were so excited and called all of our friends and family to tell them the good news.

Our pregnancy was pretty easy, except the morning sickness, heartburn and later on, the Hobbit feet! I wouldn't trade a moment of it, though. I suppose I was the typical mom-to-be and had some pretty silly experiences and concerns. There was the bleach episode and the unforgettable "crawling-through-the-window" episode at 5 months. Looking back it was pretty funny.

For some reason I thought that Adan would be here at 36 weeks. I don't know why I had that in my head, but at my 36 week appointment (my birthday, no less!!), when the doctor sent me home with no progress to report, I was truly upset. Little did I know that Mr. Adan had plans of his own. Not only would he make me wait the full 40 weeks to meet him, he'd stay in two extra days!!!
