Just an update post

Things are so much different with two than with one! I hardly have time to update anymore!

Lukas has been taking steps since he was 7.5 months old, but he really took off walking at 8.5 months. It was a gradual process, though. Adan went from crawling to walking in a day, but Lukas really preferred crawling for an alternate means of transportation. :)

Lukas is cutting his 8th tooth. He is very much a momma's boy. He wants to be held all the time. I don't mind though! I know I won't be able to hold him forever, so I'm getting it all in now. :)

Adan has started "pre-school." He's been going one day a week for about a month. He loves it and talks about it all week. It's at our Church, Trinity, and we couldn't be happier to have gotten in.

I just taught Adan how to scoot his stool over to the light switch and use the brush to reach the light switch. Now it's like a haunted house in here with the flashing lights. He's excited to learn something new. :)

At Lukas' 9 month appointment last week, he weighed 22 pounds and was 24 inches tall- that's over 100 percentile for weight and 50th percentile for height. He got a couple of vaccinations and took them like a champ. He's such a good baby!

He and Adan get along very well. Adan's always trying to teach him something and Lukas is always laughing at Adan. I think they are going to be very close.

Paw-Paw and Grandma went to TN for Labor Day and the boys soon got a package in the mail. They got two very cute tees and a post card!! The tee-shirts are very nice.

Man, so it's been a while since I've updated. Let's see..

Lukas started crawling on his 6 month birthday (July 15th)
He's been 'cruising' along the furniture for about a month now. He actually started 'cruising' before he started crawling.

Adan is getting to be such a big boy. He's speaking like a big boy now. Lots of words and sentences. Sometimes I'm the only one who can understand him, but that's ok!
He's all into Thomas the Train now. Every time we go out in the car, he asks me if we can open the door and let him see "Diesel" the train. Another cute thing is that he'll ask me if he can have some ice-cream, or watch a particular movie, or whatever and when I say not right now, he goes straight to Miguel and asks him. When he says no, he puts his finger on his chin, looks around, says hmmmm... "Lukas, can I have some ice-cream?" LOL It's way adorable.

Lukas and Adan get along so well. They play together in their room every night. Sometimes Adan can be grabby with 'his' toys, but he does play pretty well with him.

Today, for the first time, Lukas stood up by himself. It won't be much longer and he'll be walking. That will be a big help to me!

Yesterday was a big day for Lukas. He sat up from the crawling position, so he can now sit on his own and he also FINALLY took some crawling-steps. He's been rocking on all 4s since the end of May, but now he can CRAWL! I guess I shouldn't say FINALLY, LOL. He's not even 6 months old yet.
Also he's pulling up more and more. Today he pulled up on the dachshunds' ramp. He loves looking outside, so I moved the ramp in the living room so he could see out of the window. I do have some video. I'll have to down-load it when I get a free minute. :)

Adan is officially diaper free and potty trained. Two weeks ago he was hanging out in the house without a diaper. All of the sudden he grabbed his bottom and said "POO-POO!!" I asked him if he had to potty and he said "noooo..." but was still grabbing his bottom. So we ran to the bathroom where he promptly pottied in the toilet! For the next week we stayed at home and let him run around without a diaper. Worked wonders! He only had maybe one accident a day, if that. The following week, we put him in big-boy undies and within that week, only had one accident on the first day. Since then, no accidents and he is pretty consistent with telling me he has to go. YAY Adan!!

I'm a little late in posting, but we went to Slidell at the end of May for Kaya's birthday party. The party was at a gymnastics place and the kids had a blast.
We also stayed at Leslie's house for the night and we all had a great time. (Well, except for Adan in the pool. He HATED that we made him get in..)

Lukas' first tooth popped through yesterday. He's also able to balance himself well while sitting AND he pulled himself to stand for the first time Sunday. I looked back at Adan's first tooth, sitting and standing, and they started at the exact same time- 4.5 months to the DAY. Very cool!

Lukas had his 4 month appointment on Thursday, May 21st. He's off the charts in weight- 19 pounds. Though he's only gained a pound from his last appointment, so he's starting to slow down a bit, I think.
He's 25.5 inches long.
Poor baby got 3 shots and an oral. He did well, considering. He did run a little fever for a day or so, but is doing great now.

Mother's Day and the boys' Dedication

I had a beautiful Mother's Day. I woke up to two of the most beautiful boys in the world. We got ready for church, where Adan and Lukas were to be Dedicated. What a wonderful day to do that!

When we got to church, we had to sit in our assigned seats, as there were 7 families dedicating their kiddos. Of course, being a last name that starts with "B," we were in the first row. Adan was the only one of walking and talking age. Talk about FUN. The pastors told us to just let him run around and let him be a kid. They said they wanted it to be a fun experience for him. LOL. When we were standing to pray, he had to count OUT LOUD all the "BAY-BEEES" that were there. That included 2 sets of twins and 4 other babies. His cute little squeal had everyone laughing. He would climb on the prayer bench and jump off. He was having a GREAT time.

When it was our turn to climb the stairs to be 'recognized,' he stood up there in front of the thousand or so people and just hammed it up. The pastor said "I've been watching that one all day. He's going to be a base jumper when he grows up." He asked me if he had an off button. The more people laughed, the more Adan cheesed it up.

Lukas was great, of course, though he did tinkle on daddy just before, so he had to hold him in front of him so people couldn't see LOL.

The boys each got a personalized Bible, a certificate and a letter that they are supposed to open on their 12th birthday. I got some roses. It was awesome.

We went to lunch at O'Charley's after wards and picked up a few movies. When we got home, we put the boys down for a nap and watched 3 movies. It was such a fun, relaxing day.

Being a mom is such a blessing. I don't want to miss a minute of it.

Adan had a very high fever starting Wednesday. It topped 103 and waned to 101 until about Saturday. Saturday night he had no fever and was feeling great. Sunday morning he woke up with a rash from his neck to his bottom. The doctor did some blood work said it was a virus and most likely Roseola, and that once the fever was gone, he was no longer contagious. Thank goodness! The rash was all but gone by today. We just have to watch Lukas to make sure he doesn't develop a fever.

I'm so glad he's feeling better now. Lukas doesn't have any symptoms as of today. Keeping our fingers crossed!

Yes, that is at our Easter egg hunt. I didn't post much about our Easter b/c it was so hectic here. We had a small party at Ana's house a few days before Easter then went to a very LARGE Easter party at church the day before Easter. Adan had a blast, but I forgot my camera. Sigh..

Poor baby has been so congested lately. We were all sick last week and are finally getting over it- except Lukas. I brought him to the Dr today and he got some meds to make him feel better. The big news is that at 12 weeks, Lukas weighs 17.6 pounds! He's wearing 6-9 month clothes and even his medication is dosed for a 4 month old. I love my chunky-monkey :)

It was ugly today, so we created an Easter bowl to surprise daddy with. We're going to fill it with candy for him on Easter!
We finger-painted it and dried it with the hair dryer. Very fun way to talk about colors!

Adan turned 2 on Saturday. We had a wonderful party with friends and family. All of Adan's friends and their mommas were also here. Adan got lots of cool stuff, but the best part was the time we got to spend with our friends and family. It was a great weekend.

Adan's 2 year appointment is today and I'm a nervous wreck about it. He'll get his MMR shot and I hear it's a doozy. NOT looking forward to it at all.

It's a little late, but Lukas had his 2 month appointment on March 17th. He is a BIG boy. He's almost 2 pounds heavier than Adan was at this age. He got 3 shots and an oral vaccine. He did ok. I think it hurt me more than him.

Adan's first 'sentence' is Bless You. Ok, so it's not a long sentence, but he's really good about saying it anytime anyone (including the dogs) sneezes. He's also learning "sowwwy" when he hurts someone. He says it and gives a big hug. Such a sweet boy.

Lukas is 6 weeks old already. He's got great head and neck control. He's also gaining weight like you wouldn't believe. This baby does not miss a meal! He's already wearing a size 3 disposable diaper, and a size Large cloth diaper. He's recently started laughing and smiling. As always, Adan adores him. If I don't get to him quick enough, Adan will "take care of him" till I can get there. He will cover him up, give him is paci or push his swing. He is a fantastic big brother. We really are blessed.

It's a very long story, but I rescued this border collie puppy from a pound here where his brothers, sisters and momma were put to sleep. He and his brother were saved. His brother went to live with a friend of mine, and he came home with me. He is going to Border Collie rescue so he can find a great home.

Adan and his friend Addison were in the double stroller waiting for us to get ready to go on a walk. They turned around and stood up at the same time and the stroller fell backwards. He hit his head on the bar when it hit the floor. I thought he broke his nose it is HUGE and purple right between his eyes. He's fine now, and is acting normally. I called the Dr and he said to just keep an eye out for concussion symptoms, but he's acting perfectly normal. He's getting two black eyes now, though.

Sigh.. such is life with boys, right?

Lukas had his 1 month check up today. He weighed 11 pounds, 11.1 ounces. That's a 3 pound and 6 ounce gain in one month. WOW!!!

He's lifting his head and turning it from side to side. He's also making eye contact and seems to be focusing more on toys.

Adan is seriously the best big brother ever. Every time Lukas cries, Adan tries to beat us to him so he can 'console' him. That usually consists of him petting him and saying "shhhh baby" or he tries to pick him up. He's the best big brother ever.

One of Adan's favorite pastimes is picking flowers for his mommy. It's so sweet. He gathers as many as his little fists can hold, then he presents them to me in a squished little bouquet. It's enough to make your heart melt.

Already giving mommy trouble

Last Sunday morning Lukas woke up with a very high fever. I called the on-call nurse and she said to bring him to the ER since his fever was over 100.4. His was actually 101.6, which is like 104 in adults. It's very dangerous. We headed for the ER at 6am Sunday morning. After some tests that broke my heart, he was admitted to the hospital. Test after test was performed, but they couldn't figure out why his temp. was so high. We stayed for 3 days and finally was discharged when his fever went down. The only diagnosis was some sort of virus. He's doing very very well now, thank God. It was a horrible time for both of us. I can't imagine how tough it was for him.

I have some photos on my phone and I need to down-load them to the computer. I'll try to get them up soon.

Lukas Alexander

At 1135 am , after only 6 hours from the start of Pitocin, Lukas Alexander was born on January 15, 2009. He weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20.5 inches long.
(And I'll go ahead and say it... NO EPIDURAL!!!)

It's been a week at home now and I can't imagine that it's ever been different. He fits into our family perfectly and his big brother is in love with him. He's a very good baby- he sleeps, eats and poops. He's definitely his daddy's boy :)

We've been on a few outings already, but are trying to stay closer to home for the next couple of weeks. He's had several visitors including Maw-Maw and Paw-Paw who were here and helped us SO much by taking care of Adan. Also, his betrothed, Cadence, visited him for the first time yesterday. While he was in the hospital, Kaylee, Carissa, Juan and Dolores (who also helped take care of Adan) came and visited. His Aunt Terri and Maw will be here tonight to visit.

We have this "Big Book of Animals" at home that Adan LOVES. He 'reads' it a dozen times a night LOL. At first he would ask "whassthat?" for every animal. Now, he can name many of them, but he knows what each of them are. We took this video and he was being a ham. When the camera's not on him, he says alot of the names and even makes the sounds. I guess he was "camera shy" last night LOL Here's the video of one of the pages- it was too long to show the whole book.

Lukas' 3-D U/S

We had Lukas' 3-D ultra-sound yesterday. Here are some photos and a little video of it. He weighs 3.5 pounds. His doctor said he'll gain 1/2 pound per week, and since I have about 8 weeks left, he'll be about 7.5 to 8 pounds. I couldn't believe how much he looks like Adan. I'll post some comparison pics in a separate post.

We brought Adan to the airshow in Lafayette today. From the first helicopter he saw to the last jet, Adan kept saying "you see!!??" It was so cute. He also said "plane" for the first time. He was very impressed with everything. Towards the end, he was soooo tired, and could barely keep his eyes open, but he tried! It was a beautiful day for it, too. We had alot of fun.

It was SOOO loud!!

Trick or Treat!

We took Adan to Trinity Baptist Church tonight for "Trunk or Treat." It was 5 (LONG) rows of cars decorated in different themes with their trunks open and full of candy. Adan had a blast. At first he wasn't sure about all those people trying to give him stuff, but once he realized it was CANDY, he was all over it. There were probably 75 cars there and it went really quickly! It only took us about 35 minutes to get through all of them. Afterwards we had a light dinner and came home. Here are some pics of Adan before we left, and some with his loot.

Our play group had our Halloween Party last night. Adan was dressed as a pumpkin and actually kept his costume on ALL night- even the hat! We had a really good time and I think the kids all really enjoyed themselves. I know we did!!!

Yesterday Miguel and I brought Adan to the Audubon Zoo. For the first time, he really got to see and enjoy all of the animals. He was ooohhing and aaaahing over all of the big ones like the elephants, giraffes and gorillas. Every time he'd see a lion or tiger he'd say "MEOW!!!"

The weather was so pretty- I don't think it got much higher than 70ish all day. After the zoo, we stopped at the Haagan Daz and had some ice-cream. It really was a beautiful day.

He was very apprehensive about the monkey statues at first. Miguel was trying to tell him that they weren't real, but he was skeptical.

We took these last night. He's getting so big. His new words are "fish" and "shoe." I bought a new pair of tennis shoes last week and for some reason, he insists on wearing them all the time. He even wants to wear them to bed. If I take them off, he gets upset, so I just let him wear them and then take them off when he's asleep.
What's really funny is that while I'm putting one shoe on one foot, he is frantically telling me that his other foot needs a shoe too! Maybe one day I'll master putting two shoes on at once HAHAHAHA

Adan won't be 18 months old until the 28th, but his 18 mth appointment was today. He's 33 inches tall and weighs 26 pounds. Good stuff!! He is ahead on all of his physical milestones, but we need to still work on words. He knows sign language and is learning Spanish in addition to English, so it's going to take him a bit more time with the speaking milestones.

Tumbling class!

Adan had his first tumbling class at the gymnastics gym in Lake Charles yesterday. Three of his friends are also participants, so it was fun seeing them there! At first he wasn't enjoying the stretching parts, but once he was climbing and crawling and jumping and rolling, he liked it. The next class is Wednesday. Hopefully I'll be able to take some pictures then. The class wears *me* out! It's fun, though.

Almost went into labor today!

Adan nearly caused me to go into labor today... well, maybe not for real, but it sure felt like it!!! I went outside while I was making a phone call. Less than 3 minutes later, I noticed the little booger laughing at me from the door. I tried to open the door and lo and behold he'd locked the deadbolt! I was LOCKED OUT and he was LOCKED IN!!! I kept asking him to 'open the door, Adan.' He'd reach up to the deadbolt, all the while looking at me. As soon as he'd reach the lock, he grab his hand away really quickly. Then he'd crack up laughing. Yeah- really funny!!! I called Miguel and he sped home. Luckily Adan was very interested in watching me watch him, so I kept sliding things under the door to keep his interest. He didn't seem worried at all. Poor Ollie was VERY confused and kept jumping up on the door, whimpering. In less than 15 minutes, Miguel made it home and saved the day. Adan thought it was hilarious. Now we know that he can lock and unlock doors, we're worried about him getting out on his own. Tomorrow we're going to install a chain-lock at the top to be safe. How in the world is an 18 month old able to do this??? And I'm gonna have another one just like him. Life is about to get interesting!!!!

Adan, Miguel, the dogs and I headed for Galveston just before Gustav hit. We had a enjoyable and relaxing stay at a friend's family's house there. We were so grateful that Nicole's family (who's only met me once) welcomed us with open arms. We left on Saturday and just got back today. Here are some photos from the trip:

The baby was MORE than cooperative. I laid down on the table and told my (fabulous) doctor that "For the record, we think this is a girl! He laughed and said "ohhh kayyy then, let's get started" LOL.

He put that wand on my belly and I said "That's NOT a girl! That's a BOY!" He started laughing and said "Yep!! That's BIG boy!" Miguel almost fell over. He grabbed my leg and squeezed it. I almost fell on the floor myself! I was SURE it was a girl!! I stammered "bbbbbut we've not picked out any boy names yet! And I've already bought girl clothes!" LOL

This little guy is SO active, we couldn't get much of a profile picture of him. It took the Dr. about 5 minutes just to find his heart b/c he was moving so much. Looks like we are INDEED going to have our hands full. Two boys under TWO? WOW. Say a prayer for me!!!!

Today we find out if Adan is going to have a little brother or a little sister!!!! Most of my friends and family think girl. Mom thinks boy. We'll see who's right! I'm not saying what I think, just in case I'm wrong LOL. While we're waiting to find out (my appointment is in 3 hours and 23 minutes- at 1015!) Here are some pictures of Adan for everyone to enjoy!

We went to his friend, Diego's house for Diego's birthday party. Besides chasing Adan around all afternoon, we had lots of fun. He rode a pony for the first time ever. At first he was apprehensive about him, but as soon as he started moving, all that disappeared. After his ride, he kept nodding his head toward the horse saying "again???" "again???" He rode the pony 3 times.

Adan also drove a motorized truck for the first time. The pedal to make it go is on the floor. Adan had to stand up on it to make it go, but once he realized what it does, he took off. He was steering and everything. Of course, he was steering into crowds LOL. I think he needs one of those for Christmas.

He had a lot of fun at Diego's and he cried when we left. I was exhausted. LOL.

When Miguel's family came down a couple of weeks ago, we went to Kemah, Texas. We'd been there once before when Adan was only a couple of months old. We loved it then and would've had a great time this time too, but it was SO hot!! Back in May 2007, when we were there, I took a photo of Miguel holding Adan. Adan did!!! He woke up this morning with a dry diaper, so I took him to the big potty, put the little seat on it, and sat him down. Within a few minutes, he tinkled!!! Miguel was home, Adan was playing on the floor in the living room and I was *trying* to take a nap on the couch. Adan just wasn't having that. As I laid there with my eyes closed, he came over to me and sort of "whispered" in my face. I didn't respond, so he got louder and louder. He poked his fingers in my nose and tried to open my eyes. By this point I was thoroughly amused, so I kept my eyes closed to see what he'd do next. He leaned realllly close to my face like he was going to kiss me. He put his lips on my nose and just before I said "awwwwwww what a SWEET boy!!!" He BIT ME. He bit my nose!!! Then he laughed and ran away. I screamed, of course, and that upset him. He started crying and came over and patted my leg like he was sorry. He's such a sweet boy. Even if he *is* a biter LOL

Tragic day on Thursday

I was driving to do some Rescue business, heading north. I was less than a mile to my destination, traveling in the left hand lane. There was a large dodge extended cab truck traveling south in the left lane. She, for no apparent reason, swerved HARD and without hitting her brakes and hit a large oak tree head-on. It was so weird, because it was like it was in slow-motion. I heard the BANG after I saw her hit. It was crazy. I pulled over onto the grass, and ran to her side of the truck. The front of the truck was literally sitting on the front seat. The truck was on fire and there was smoke filling the cab. An Army Major was also at the scene. We were trying to get the door open, but it was crushed shut. The lady's eyes were open, and her head was on the steering wheel, but she was unresponsive. I feared she was dead. From the back of the cab I heard moaning. I looked and that was a little girl slumped over in the back. I ran around and noticed that she was covered in blood and mostly unresponsive. With smoke filling the cab, I hesitated for a split second to decide if I should move her or not. I made the decision to go ahead and pull her out. I grabbed her and held her close to me, cradling her neck and back. At that time, a lady came to ask if she could help. I just asked her to go and sit with Adan who was still in the car asleep, because at that point I was covered in blood. I laid the little girl on the ground and started talking to her. She started crying and blood was coming from her mouth. Her belly was very distended and I feared internal bleeding. I'm pretty sure her leg and arm was broken. She was not in a car seat and not in a booster. She was wearing an adult seat belt. She told me her name was Jo-Jo and that she was 4. She squeezed my hand and asked me if she was going to die. She told me she wanted her mommy. The driver was not her mom. She was her mom's best friend. A few minutes after I laid her down, a man came over. He introduced himself as a pediatrician. He saw the accident happen and came to see if he could help. He stabilized the little girl and I kept talking to her as the fire department and paramedics tried to get the lady stabilized and worked on. The little girl kept a tight squeeze on my hand while I talked to her and tried to sooth her. I talked to her about a lot of different things, to keep her awake, because she kept trying to fall asleep. I tried to get her mom's phone number and name from her, but she couldn't remember it. She'd hit her head pretty hard on the front seat.
The fire department finally got the lady out, but honestly, I don't know if she's going to make it. She was really messed up. She was about 10 ft away from me and I *thought* I smelled old or stale alcohol. I hope that's not what it was, but that's what it smelled like.
The paramedics finally came over and put the neck brace on her and put her on the back-board and loaded her up in the ambulance.
Please pray that that little girl is going to be ok. Also, for the lady. I've not heard yet about her condition. I've been watching the news, but so far no word.
After everything was over, I called DH and told him. It wasn't until then that I completely lost it. I was crying so hard. Now my right shoulder is hurting me really badly. The only thing I can think of is that my adrenaline got that door open. I think I may have pulled or torn a muscle in the process. Small price to pay, though. I'm just glad the little girl seems to be ok. Hug your little ones extra close tonight.

UPDATE
The police said that the woman driving was, as I knew, Jo-Jo's mom's best friend. Her name is Susan. Susan was at Jo-Jo's house "visiting" with the mom and dad. Jo-Jo wanted McDonald's, so Susan drove her. That's where they were going. It took the police/hospital workers HOURS to get in contact with the mom and dad. It took the parents even longer to get there. Jo-Jo's grandmother was the one who actually made it to the hospital and flew with her to the Children's hospital. It's guessed that the three of them had been "partying" together, and all of them were drunk/high.

I told the policeman exactly what I witnessed and what I thought (he asked) as I approached the vehicle. I told him that she had the 1000 yard stare that alcoholics/drug users have. I also told him that I immediately felt badly about thinking that b/c obviously, she was in pain, and that could've been the reason she was "out of it." I also noted to him the smell of alcohol. He told me that I would most likely have to testify against her, and wanted to know if I had any credentials to back up my thoughts. I explained that I have a B.S. in psychology, with a concentration in drug/alcohol abuse, that I was the Alcohol and Drug Prevention and Control officer for the Army for 6 years, and that I was a bartender for 6 years. He said that was good enough for him, and that he's confident that I know what I'm talking about. He did confirm my suspicions that she was drunk or on drugs. It made me feel better, in a weird way, because I didn't feel like I was "judging" her. She didn't even know that she was hurt. That's how out of it she was.

As for Jo-Jo, the majority of her wounds were caused by something (most likely a tire) flying from the bed of the truck, into the rear window, and into her head and neck. She has, obviously, head trauma, a neck/back injury, and brain swelling. I've not heard anymore about her condition. I have to go in on Monday to write a full report. I'm very anxious to do so. I'd like nothing more than to keep that "woman" off the streets for good. I hope her parents are also charged with reckless endangerment and are not allowed to see her any longer. Harsh, I know, but that baby girl needs a new start in life.

The long-time-no-update update.

I know it's been awhile! We've been so busy. Here's a brief run-down of the last couple of months.

On the first of April, mom and Terri threw Adan a birthday party in Pearl River. It was so nice. Everyone was there, and Adan got lots of cool presents. Here are some photos of the party:

Another big update is that Adan is now sleeping in the BIG BOY bed!! He's in a twin size bed, without rails, even! He's been in it for over a month, and there have been no more night terrors. I'm not sure if I'd posted about that or not, but for a long time, Adan was having some serious issues with night terrors. He would begin SCREAMING at different times in the night, as though he was awake, but actually, he was asleep. The terrors got so bad that we video taped them and then we called his pedi who confirmed that it was night terrors. Since he's been in his bed, though, he's not had ANY. Recently he's even begun to sleep right through the night, from 9pm to 7-8 am. It's a really good feeling!

Adan also has a new trick. He climbs on EVERYTHING. While he has NO fear, he is also very cautious. He has really good balance and has proven it over and over again. It's a wonder, though, that I don't have a head-full of gray hair. I can not turn my back on this boy for a MINUTE! He's a pro at getting on and off our king-sized bed, even our TABLE. Of course I discourage the latter- since I caught him nearly hanging from our chandelier!

Adan has his own swimming pool, too. He loves it. We're actually on our second one, since the first one was worn out!

Every afternoon, Ollie seems like he can sense that Miguel is on his way home. About 10 minutes before he drives into the drive-way, Ollie goes to the window. This is a common sight at our house as we await daddy's arrival!

Miguel and his thyroid:
We discovered that Miguel's thyroid is way over active. A normal thyroid functions at a level of 35. His was well over 1000. It explained so many of the symptoms he's had over the last few years. Because of the seriousness of it, it was recommended that he see an oncologist to have radiation treatment to ablate the thyroid. His doctor told us that even though I am pregnant, I would only have to stay away for 3-4 days (and he expressed that even that was a bit of an over-reaction.).

Update on baby number two:

We had our first ultrasound of our little bean on the 23rd of May. At that point, I was only 6 weeks, so there wasn't much to see. Our next appointment is on the 20th of this month and I'm SOO excited! I'll be almost 11 weeks, so there will be much more to see! We still won't know the gender until September, but at least he/she will look like a baby at this point!

At our appointment, I found out that due to Miguel's radiation treatment for his thyroid, we would have to be away from him for 2 weeks. My ob was extremely concerned about the level of radiation Adan and I (and the peanut) would be exposed to. I was prepared to stay away for a few days- since I was going to Slidell for Kaya's birthday party anyway. I was NOT prepared to stay away for 2 weeks. Somehow, we made it through though. A few days into our "adventure" me, Terri, Aunt Faye and Uncle Johnny got extremely ill. I had 102 fever and was throwing up like crazy. It lasted almost 3 days. I was very worried about baby bean, but he/she is just fine now. Adan had a touch of it for one day, but luckily it didn't last long.

We finally got home on Monday and got the all clear, after 12 days, to be around Miguel, as long as we didn't get too close to him. He's still sleeping on an air mattress on the floor, washing his clothes separately and drinking/eating from different plates/glasses. He gets his levels checked every week, and they are sloooooowly going down.

How does a dog go?
Adan says wuff wuff wuff in the cutest little voice. He also knows what a "kitty" is and when he sees one, he goes "Meeeooowww!! Kitty!!" We don't have cats, but he sees them around the neighborhood and LOVES them.
He also LOVES to give Ollie "hugs." I need to get some photos of that!

Adan also has learned how to "ask" for things. If he wants milk or juice, he brings me his cup and nods his head REALLY hard as though he's asking for some. If he's hungry, he goes to the kitchen and points to the refrigerator and nods his head. He's a smart one. Definitely knows what he wants!

Well, I think that's all the updates I have for now. Now that I'm all caught up, I'll update more often!

Where, oh where did my little baby go??!! It seems like just yesterday we were driving up to our house with a teensy bundle of joy. Now I have a bona-fide toddler. Adan turned one Friday. To celebrate, Miguel and I brought him to Olive Garden for dinner. Why Olive Garden? Well, that is where Miguel and I went to dinner after we got married 11 years ago! We thought it'd be a good tradition to start. The waitresses came out and sang "Happy Birthday." He loved it!

On Saturday, a few of our friends came together to celebrate with a party just for Adan. We had pizza, popcorn, fruit and veges. It ended with a water-balloon fight (that was supposed to be for the kids, but of course men were involved, so we got the brunt of it.) I ended up in the pool thanks to Miguel. It was alot of fun, though but I thin k next year we're doing ChuckE.Cheese's! We still have the "Pearl River" party on Saturday!

Daddy and I got him a tee-ball set, a basketball goal, a soccer set, a sprinkler and a pool with a slide. Other gifts he got were:

Word explosion!

Adan has several words in his vocabulary now:

"Again" is said "'gain?" when he wants something repeated like a toy to be replayed or even another bite of food. Sometimes he gets that first "A" in there, creating a 2-syllable word.

"Dog" is said "bog" but he always points to the dog when he says it.

"Dadda" again, he uses a "b" to sound like badda" but he points to his daddy when he says it.

"Momma" usually he says this when he's upset or crying and wants comfort.

"Balloon" is said "oon". He is obsessed with balloons, among other things. When you ask him "Where's your Balloon?" He'll look around all over the house for it. When he finally finds it, he gets all excited and says "OOOONNNN!!!!!!" and then goes and gets it.

Also, not word related, but every morning we go into the living room and he finds the remote and points it at the TV. He looks at me confused when it doesn't turn on LOL. He's a smarty-pants!

After about a month of trying, Adan's molars have finally pushed through on his right side. His canine on the upper right is also trying to push through. As painful as it must be, he's handling it pretty well. He's such a tough boy!!

Miguel and I brought Adan to his first Mardi Gras parade yesterday. It was right here in Lake Charles. I've never been to such a POLITE parade!! Usually, people knock you over to get beads. Yesterday, people were giving each other beads, and jumping OUT of the way. It was definitely a change from the Slidell/New Orleans parades I grew up with! Adan had a good time, but he was soooo tired by the end. Before the parade, we went to a "children's day" at the Civic Center. He got a balloon, some cookies and a little crown. We had alot of fun.

So I'm sitting on the couch while Adan was on the floor playing with, among other things, the telephone. He likes to push the buttons, and it makes him happy, so I don't mind. Well, I hear a few beeps, but really don't think anything of it. Well... then I hear talking. Adan had the phone up to his ear and was smiling and "talking" back. He called his maw-maw!!! I'd called her last night, so I guess he pushed "talk" then "redial." He amazes me everyday LOL.

Ok, so I'm a little behind the curve-ball with the up-loading of these pictures. I do have a good excuse, though. Adan has been extremely sick. It started with a nasty blistery diaper rash on Saturday. He was also having a bit of diarrhea, but nothing to really worry about. Well, by Sunday night (actually 1:30am Monday morning) he had blood in his diaper. I wrapped him up immediately and we went straight to the ER. They took his diaper and did a culture. 2 days later they found out he had salmonella. We have several ideas about where he got it, but nothing definitive. I do know that he didn't get it here, since I don't cook. The worst point was Tuesday evening when his temperature reached 104.3. He was limp and really unresponsive, and he was shaking. I thought for sure he was going to have a seizure, but thankfully, after a cool bath and some pedialyte, he was a bit better. He's still having some diarrhea, but he's acting normally again. That was truly the most scared I've ever been in my life.

We celebrated Thanksgiving in El Paso. Adan loved all the new food to try. It was so good to finally spend time with Miguel's family. It was such a special vacation and I think Adan had such a great time. I don't think he was put down more than 2 times the entire week!

Yesterday we brought Adan to the Children's museum. Man, did he have a BLAST!!??!! After the museum, we had lunch, then met some friends at the movies. Adan and I went in with the other mommies and children to watch A Bee Movie while daddy went and watched something else.
Adan LOVED the movie. His eyes were as big as saucers the entire time. He laughed at the movie and jumped up and down. It was a complete success.

Adan also had his first finger foods today. He munched on hard teething biscuits and rice puffs. I think he's in love LOL. He's been eating a lot of baby food too, about 9 ounces per day.
I gave him a little juice mixed with water in a sippy cup and he knew exactly what to do! I have to get a good picture of him holding it.

Last Saturday

Last Saturday we went to a picnic for Miguel's new job. He played softball there and guess what. He chipped a bone in his ankle and tore his tendons in a nasty way. He's in a walking cast now, and thankfully, has been able to go back to work as of Friday. The swelling is not as bad as it was, and the discoloration is nearly gone. He wears an "air cast" to work in and then wears the walking cast when he's not at work. And no, much to my surprise, an air cast is not like an "air guitar." It's really real LOL.

Well, today Adan's official first word is MOMMA. He's said Momma a few times accidentally, but today was the first time he repeated me over and over and over again. I'm amazed how smart this little man is! I am so proud of him, I really am!
